There are two types of stray dogs that we find on the road:

  1. Those who have been abandoned by their owners
  2. Those who are born in the streets

As a part of our research, we interviewed the inhabitants of Commercial Street and Kamaraj Road. We asked them how they felt about the lingering presence of stray dogs in their area and what according to them has led to the increase in the number of stray dogs over the years.

In our efforts as citizen geographers, we have done the following:

  1. Prepared a survey and chose the inhabitants of Commercial Street as the respondents. We tabulated the results and analyzed the results.
  2. Prepared a three-dimension model of Commercial Street to identify areas which are most susceptible to the stray dog influx.
  3. We have also successfully been able to find good homes for three stray dogs from our school.
  4. We spread awareness among the people the effective and sensible way of dealing with stray dogs and also encouraged them to adopt stray dogs rather than buying exotic and expensive breeds. This was made possible by making posters and sticking them in Commercial Street, Koramangala and Hebbal.
  5. An app relating to the welfare of stray dogs is in progress. We won’t be able to launch it at the IGYS as it is still in the working stage. However, we have a digital blueprint of how the app will function.
