Every day tons of solid waste are disposed improperly. This causes hazardous effects on our environment. There are things which can be recycled and put to use but we are thoughtless and are unaware of the consequences it can have on our surroundings.

In Tannery Road, Bengaluru, there are open-air sites without any proper dumping station where the garbage is collected. Dumping and burning of garbage give unpleasant odour and pollute the air. This is happening because people are ignorant about the consequences.

Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is irregular in collecting and disposing the garbage. The foul smell in the open areas attract flies and mosquitoes. This is affecting the health of the people. The cows grazing the garbage also fall sick and their milk is infected. This in turn affects many infants & people.

We carried out a survey on garbage disposal in Tannery road. We went door to door, interacted with the residents near the dump sites and the other people in the neighborhood. We created awareness about the dangerous consequences and ill effects on infants and people. We distributed posters on waste segregation in their respective houses. We took photographs of the affected sites to the BBMP office and requested the officials to regularly collect the garbage.
