Even though cities are attractive with lots of amenities, a hygiene environment is lacking in many of the crowded places.

We did primary research in the areas of Chandapura and Begur and found out the following issues-

  1. Waste accumulation and water stagnation is leading to diseases like malaria and chikungunya.(spread by mosquitoes).
  2. It is also causing foul smell and traffic problems.
  3. BBMP measures of waste collection are not reaching the locality and children especially vendors’ kids are affected more because they are forced to be in that unhealthy environment.

We also interviewed a medical student to know more about communicable diseases.

As a citizen geographers, we did the following as our outreach work:

  1. We interacted with the local people and distributed posters on importance of health and hygiene in the locality.
  2. We contacted he councillor of the locality and requested him to take quick action in improving the existing condition.

We ourselves made a strong decision to be change- makers – change starting from our own homes.
